Making the space around your home a little more convenient
AboutNojima Exterior Workshop is Nojima Giken'sfifth business. Want to mark your garden boundary, or need a place to dry futons? We build those "handy to have" exteriors from scratch to suit your home.
One system, many uses
The same removable-wire system works as a fence or a clothesline. Once you know how it works, you can use it in many ways and freely reconfigure it later.
Just right for your site
We listen to your site conditions and requests and decide the best position, height and number of wires. We travel to sites across Hokkaido in our mobile workshop trailer.
Remove and reassemble freely
Posts slide in and out, and wires can be re-tensioned. Even if the place or purpose changes, you can reconfigure it and keep using it for years. It isn't finished when it's built — you can adapt it as your life changes.
Removable wire system
How It WorksRust-resistantstainless steel wire tensioned with a manual winch. The posts simply slot into sleeves in the foundations, so you can remove them by pulling them out. Both the fence and the clothesline use thissame system.
SUS304 φ5mm
We use stainless 7×19 wire rope that resists rust from de-icing agents and Hokkaido winters.
Manual winch
A winch is fixed to the storage-side post. With a maximum tension of 5 kN, it tensions every wire securely.
Slot-in posts
600 mm-deep concrete foundations with steel square sleeves. Posts slide in and out, and can be replaced if they rot.
Designed to be removed
Loosen the wires and pull the posts, and the opening is fully clear — for snow removal, vehicle access and seasonal changes.
Removable wire fence
Product 01 — Removable Wire FenceA light exterior fence you put up only when you need it.
Enclose your space with stainless wire and posts; when you want to drive in, just pull the posts and wind up the wire.It keeps kids and pets from darting out without giving up everyday freedom. Hang plants or let ivy climb it — and it handles Hokkaido's snowy winters.
How it works — for a 4 m opening
The standard setup for a 4 m opening is3 main foundations + 2 for storage on one side = 5 in total. Posts are spaced 2 m apart. Foundations are 600 mm-deep concrete with steel square sleeves, into which the posts are slotted.
| Opening width | Main foundations | Storage | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2m | 2 | 2 | 4 total |
| 4m | 3 | 2 | 5 total |
| 6m | 4 tires | 2 | 6 total |
| 8m | 5 | 2 | 7 total |
| 10 m or more | Possible by adding an intermediate winch — please ask | ||
Mechanism details
Adjust wire tension with the manual winch; the slot-in posts come in and out without tools. "Removable" whenever you like.
Up only when you need it
The posts slot into steel square sleeves in the foundations.Pull them out and it's gone in an instant. Loosen and wind up the wires with the manual winch and the opening is fully clear.
- Handles sudden vehicle access
- Doesn't get in the way of snow removal or mowing
- Can be stored on one side in winter
Won't rust, won't rot
The wire isSUS304 stainless steel, φ5 mm, a material that resists rust from Hokkaido winters and de-icing agents. Choose wooden or steel square posts; the foundations use steel square sleeves to prevent corrosion.
- Stainless steel wire
- Posts can be replaced even if they rot
- Concrete foundations + metal sleeves
Use it as is in winter
There's no need to remove it for winter.Unlike an ordinary clothes pole, the wire won't bend under the weight of snow — a nice bonus. Even if the wire gets buried in snow, just pull it up and it's back to normal.
- Can stay installed through the snowy season
- Ready to use as soon as the snow melts
- Remove it only when you want to
Choose from two types of posts
Choose the post material to suit your garden's look and the service life you want. The foundations are the same (steel square sleeves), so you can swap just the posts later.
Wooden posts
Preservative-treated Hokkaido timber. Pairs well with plantings and blends into a natural garden. The color changes and gains character over the years.
- Cross-section: 90×90mm
- Service life: About 10–15 years (extendable by repainting)
- Finish: Preservative coating (color options)
- Best for: Detached homes, café exteriors, farms
Steel square posts
Square tubing with an acrylic coating for a sharp, modern look. Highly durable and nearly maintenance-free. Ideal for new homes and simple exteriors.
- Cross-section: 75×75 mm square tube
- Service life: About 20–30 years
- Finish: Acrylic coating (black / gray / white)
- Best for: New homes, shops, parking lots
Four steps to use it
Normally it encloses your garden as a fence; remove it only for vehicle access or snow removal. No tools needed — about 5 minutes for one person.
Normal
Posts standing, with 5 rows of wire enclosing the opening
Loosen the winch
Turn the storage-side winch to loosen all 5 wires at once
Pull the posts
Pull the posts out of their sleeves (slot-in, so no tools needed)
Stored

Where it's useful
Kids' and pets' safety
You want to stop them darting into the road, but sometimes want to drive into the garden.Normally closed, opened only when needed as an exterior fence. Once the kids grow up and it's no longer needed, you can remove and store it.
Planting & vegetable garden boundaries
Deter deer, stray dogs and stray cats while hanging flowerpots or letting ivy climb.Growing the fence itself into a "green partition" is something only a wire structure can do.
Doubles as parking
Normally closed, fully open only when vehicles come and go.As a storage place for campers, trailers or heavy machinery, you can move large vehicles in and out only when needed.
Temporary & rental properties
When moving out, you can pull the posts and leave just the foundations (or remove everything). As shop exteriors or temporary event enclosures too, it can be reconfigured and used for a long time.
Removable wire clothesline
Product 02 — Removable Wire Drying SystemJust stretch a wire from wall to post.
An exterior wall, a balcony post, a garage post, a fence post — just stretch a wire between structures that are already there and you have a place to dry laundry. A removable clothesline system using the same SUS304 stainless wire and tensioning mechanism as the fence.Built strong enough for laundry and even futons.
Up only when you need it
Loosen the turnbuckle and it comes right off. When you have guests, before a typhoon, or during winter when it's not in use, take the wire down and store it neatly. The key feature is that you can quickly re-stretch it only when you use it.
- Removed in 1–2 minutes
- Doesn't spoil the look of your exterior walls
- Can be completely removed for winter
Dries futons well
Not only laundry, butheavy items such as futons, sheets and jackets. The SUS304 φ5 mm wire has a tensile strength of over 1.5 tonnes. Stretch several in parallel to spread out and dry a futon.
- Laundry, futons & sheets
- About 30 kg load capacity per wire
- 2–3 wires in parallel can hold a futon
Mount it anywhere
Exterior walls, balcony posts, garage posts, existing fence posts —the wire is stretched between structures that are already there. No need for a big new drying stand, so you can make the most of limited space.
- Wall bracket mounting
- Direct post mounting (metal fittings)
- Can link with existing fence posts
Designed for your home
The mounting position, height, number of wires and span are decided based on the location of existing structures andthe amount and size of what you want to dry. Designing by looking at the site, not just at drawings, is the Nojima Giken way.
- Standard span: 2–5 m
- 1–4 wires in parallel
- Height customized between shoulder level and arm's reach

We come to your site in our mobile workshop trailer
Mobile WorkshopIn exterior work, much canonly be understood by seeing the site. The slope of the land, the distance to neighbors, existing plants, winter wind direction, where snow piles up — before any drawing, we start by standing on site.
Nojima Giken hasa self-built trailer-type mobile workshop, so we can bring our entire fabrication setup to any site in Hokkaido. Cutting timber, welding posts, working wire, pouring foundations — on the spot if needed. We're also equipped to stay overnight and keep working on sites far from Sapporo.
Investigate, think, build
Our ProcessNojima Exterior Workshop's work always proceeds in these three steps.See the site, decide together with you, and build on the spot — a simple process that doesn't rely on drawings alone.
Investigate
We visit the site and carefully observe the land and your way of life. We take drawings and measurements, listen to you, and use AI to compare similar cases and material data side by side.
Think
Based on what we saw on site and your requests, we decide the wireposition, height and number. We'll propose several patterns so we can choose together the one that's "just right."
Build
We bring the mobile workshop trailer to the site, do the woodworking, welding and metalwork on the spot, and finish as designed. We also explain how to use and care for it, and the warranty, once it's complete.
