Where to drill

How to tell us where you want your well

An address alone may not pinpoint the exact spot you want to drill — land without a lot number, large properties, land in the mountains. With the latitude and longitude, we can survey the geology of that exact spot. No difficult steps are needed. A single smartphone is enough.

01

Why latitude and longitude?

A pre-drilling geological survey starts by gathering public boring records around the spot you want to drill and reading the prospects for strata and groundwater. The starting point is the position of that one spot.

However, looking up a position from an address may return only a representative point for the district. In one of our own cases, a point found from the address alone was more than 2 km away from the actual property. This is even more likely for land without a lot number or a large property under one lot number.

Latitude and longitude are two numbers that mark a single point on the ground.
With these two numbers, we can start the survey from the spot you want to drill.

There are three ways to tell us. Any one of them is enough.

Look it up from a photo (iPhone)

If the photo taken on site is in the iPhone "Photos" app

First, try "Choose a photo taken on site" in the form. If the photo has a recorded location, just choosing it fills in the latitude and longitude (the photo itself is not sent). If it can't be read, you can look up the numbers with the following steps.

i
1.Open the photo and press ⓘOpen the site photo in the "Photos" app and press ⓘ at the bottom. Swiping the photo up does the same.
2.Press the map that appearsA map of where the photo was taken appears. Press it to open a larger map.

3.Copy the "Coordinates"Long-press the "Coordinates" numbers and tap "Copy." Paste them into the latitude field of the form and they will be split into latitude and longitude.

Photos without a map have no recorded location

  • Photos taken with the camera's location setting turned off
  • Photos received via LINE or email (the location is removed when sent)
  • For new photos, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera, set it to "While Using the App," and then take the photo.

※ Screen layouts differ slightly depending on the iOS version.

Look it up from a photo (Android)

If the photo taken on site is in "Google Photos"

On Android, the location may be removed when a photo is passed to the browser, and on some models "Choose a photo taken on site" in the form cannot read it. In that case, check the numbers in the photo app and enter them in the form fields.

Google Photos
1.Open the photoIn "Google Photos," open the photo taken on site.
Swipe up
2.Swipe upSwipe the photo up (or press "︙" at the top right).

3.Note the numbers below the mapA map of where the photo was taken and the latitude and longitude numbers appear. Enter these two numbers in the form fields.

If no numbers appear

  • Photos taken with the camera's location setting (location tags) turned off have no recorded location. Turn on "Location" in the camera app settings before taking photos.
  • The display varies by model and app version. If you can't find it, the next method, "Pick on a map," is reliable.

When you can't go to the site — pick on a map

From home or from a computer

If it doesn't work

Pressing the button doesn't ask for location, or can't get it

Location is turned off for your browser. In your device's Settings, allow location for the browser you use (Safari or Chrome). If that's difficult, "Tap the map to pick" is enough.

You are viewing this page inside an app such as LINE

Screens inside apps may not be able to get your location. Reopen the page in Safari or Chrome and try again.

The error is large or the pin is off

Try again outdoors where you can see the sky. If it is still off, drag the pin on the map to the spot you want to drill.

Can't read it from the photo

Either the photo has no recorded location, or the location was removed when passed to the browser. Please use "Tap the map to pick."

I just can't figure it out

That's fine. Send us photos of the site or landmarks via LINE or email, and we will confirm the location.

07

Send only the location

For those already consulting with us or receiving an estimate

If you have already applied and just want to tell us the spot you want to drill, send it from here. Opening this page on site and pressing the button is the most reliable way.

Pressing Send delivers it directly to Nojima Giken. A confirmation copy will be sent to the email address you entered. The location you provide is used for the pre-drilling survey and estimate of your well (Privacy policy).

If you haven't applied yet

We offer the pre-drilling geological survey free of charge within Hokkaido. We send you a report on the recommended depth, expected water volume and possible risks for the spot you want to drill. No pushy selling.
